Universal Pictures presents 1917 as a 2019 film directed by Sam Mendes. At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield and Blake, are ordered to cross enemy territory and deliver a message calling off an attack. If they fail to reach the second battalion in time, many soldiers — including Blake's brother — may walk into a trap.
The urgent mission gives the story a clear human measure: the distance between a message and the lives it might save. Its continuous-motion approach makes the passage through danger feel immediate, while the focus stays on duty, courage, and the strain of carrying responsibility for others. 1917 may appeal to viewers drawn to immersive war dramas, tightly focused missions, and stories where small decisions carry enormous consequences.
